One: A Universal Anthem of Connection
No time to read? Take a listen!
Welcome back, everyone, to day 6 of "I Ride Alone: The Rough Cuts." Today, we're diving into a profoundly special song that celebrates our shared human experiences—our joys, our sorrows, and everything in between.
"One" addresses the universal themes of pain, suffering, loneliness, and heartbreak, but it also shines a light on the joy that connects us all.
The genesis of "One" remains a bit of a mystery to me, but it quickly became my favorite track from the Johnny Cash-inspired challenge. As I wrote, sang, and recorded it—using only GarageBand, without a single physical instrument—I could almost envision myself sharing the stage with Johnny Cash and a live band, feeling the energy and connection that only music can provide.
Interestingly, "One" was among the last, if not the final, song I completed for the challenge. Yet, it felt like the perfect centerpiece for "I Ride Alone," bridging what came before with what was yet to come. It serves as a reminder that, despite the individual struggles we face, the feeling of solitude we might endure, we're never truly alone. As long as we have breath in our lungs, we share a common bond, a unity that transcends our differences.
As you listen to "One" and reflect on its lyrics, remember that no matter the hurdles or the weight of loneliness you carry, our shared humanity binds us. We are, in essence, one.
Please enjoy "One," and be sure to return tomorrow as we unveil the seventh track, "444 Miles"—a story of love and connection that spans vast distances.

Lyrics
Verse 1
Born inside the fires
Of broken hearted men and women
We are, one
Traveling’ cross the stars
In search of hope, only to find
We are, one
Prechorus
We are one and the same
In search for truth, no one to blame
We are, one
Are fate’s been written in the stars
You need proof?
It’s in our scars
We are, one
Chorus
Well give a little lovin’, baby
Cuz we both know that life ain’t easy
And don’t get me confused
No I don’t mean that
You got to please me
Take a look inside
I’m use you’ll find a little light
That you can shine on me
And then you’ll see
We’re one, and the same 2x
Verse 2
Whispers in the night
As bullets fall and rip the sky
We are, one
No strangers to the hung pangs that
Burn and grip the soul
We are, one
Prechorus
We are one and the same
In search for truth, no one to blame
We are, one
Are fate’s been written in the stars
You need proof?
It’s in our scars
We are, one
Chorus
Well give a little lovin’, baby
Cuz we both know that life ain’t easy
And don’t get me confused
No I don’t mean that
You got to please me
Take a look inside
I’m use you’ll find a little light
That you can shine on me
And then you’ll see
We’re one, and the same 2x
Prechorus
We are one and the same
In search for truth, no one to blame
We are, one
Are fate’s been written in the stars
You need proof?
It’s in our scars
We are, one (one)
Chorus 2x
Well give a little lovin’, baby
Cuz we both know that life ain’t easy
And don’t get me confused
No I don’t mean that
You got to please me
Take a look inside
I’m use you’ll find a little light
That you can shine on me
And then you’ll see
We’re one, and the same 2x
