Hello everyone, E. A. Bland here. First off, I want to extend a heartfelt apology for the gap in newsletters and videos recently. Life has been a bit hectic, with work, family, and personal matters taking precedence. I appreciate your patience and ongoing support—it truly means the world to me. Rest assured, I’m not going anywhere, and there’s so much more I’m eager to share with you about the beautiful world of cinema.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reorganizing and expanding my physical media collection. Seeing my shelves come to life with DVDs, Blu-rays, and films spanning decades has been incredibly fulfilling. This collection is more than just movies to me—it’s a representation of my passion, my identity, and my dreams of becoming a filmmaker.
Film as a Tool for Education and Inspiration
The act of building this collection has reminded me of how much cinema has shaped my life. Since childhood, I’ve dreamed of becoming a filmmaker, and I view each film in my collection as a textbook. Cinema, as an art form, is still relatively young compared to ancient arts like sculpture or writing. Yet, it holds a unique ability to combine so many elements—storytelling, visuals, music, acting, and more—into one cohesive experience.
Through this collection, I study not only the films themselves but also the craftsmanship behind them. Whether it’s analyzing a director’s vision, costume design, cinematography, or screenplay, every movie offers lessons that extend beyond the screen. For instance:
Classic Films: Understanding their influence on modern storytelling.
Cinematic Techniques: Observing shot compositions, editing styles, and use of color.
Collaborative Artistry: Appreciating the roles of actors, writers, designers, and directors in bringing a vision to life.
Lessons from Bond and Beyond
Recently, I revisited Daniel Craig’s James Bond era, which always leaves me deeply moved. A line from Spectre struck me: “A license to kill is also a license not to kill.” This philosophy mirrors the balance a director must strike in filmmaking—deciding what elements to include or exclude, what emotions to evoke, and how to guide the audience’s experience.
This same balance applies to life. As a self-learner, I’ve always charted my own path, guided by curiosity and a desire to explore what excites me. Film has been a constant teacher, sparking interests I never expected and inspiring me to dig deeper into the world around me.
The Universal Language of Storytelling
Movies are more than entertainment—they’re a bridge to understanding. They bring people together, spark conversations, and remind us of shared human experiences. Storytelling has always been a cornerstone of culture, connecting communities since the dawn of time. Cinema, as a modern extension of that heritage, continues to unite us in profound ways.
As I sit surrounded by shelves filled with films, I’m overwhelmed by gratitude—for the stories that have touched my life and for the opportunity to share this love with you. This journey into cinema is not just personal; it’s about building connections and celebrating the art form that brings us together.
What’s Next
Looking ahead, I’m excited to fully embrace this passion for film. As the year turns, you’ll see me dive even deeper into cinema, from reviews and critiques to experimental filmmaking inspired by the classics. There will be laughs, tears, and lively debates—because that’s what movies are meant to do: spark dialogue and inspire.
For now, I’ll be taking a brief pause as we approach Thanksgiving to finalize some formatting changes and prepare for a more structured approach to reviews. You can expect a few more updates, perhaps a Cinema Tunes playlist, but the big projects will resume after the holiday.
Join the Conversation
This is a space for film lovers, thinkers, and curious minds. If something I share resonates with you—or even if it doesn’t—talk about it. Share it with friends, family, and fellow movie buffs. Let’s build a community around the power of stories.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support keeps me inspired, and I can’t wait to see where this cinematic adventure takes us next. Until then, have a wonderful week, and I’ll see you after Thanksgiving.
Warm regards,
E. A. Bland
