The Year I Became is an ongoing, and annually rotating self-education project, empowering readers to live and explore the life of their dreams, one year at a time. For this year we are focused on The Year I Became, A Film Critic.

Welcome one and all to the wondrous world of cinema! Follow along with me on my exciting journey of becoming a film critic. Step one in a master plan of becoming a filmmaker myself in the near future.

Having watched over 2,400 films in my life time, I realized I was almost ready to fulfill that lifelong dream, but I’d need to be a better student and connoisseur of film; able to articulate my thoughts and vision through the language of cinema with ease.

So, over the next year, join me as I watch, analyze, enjoy, and yes, offer my own critique on the ever growing world of cinema.

Whether these films are in my personal - recently started, and gradually expanding - physical media collection, festivals and theaters, or any of the various streaming services, I believe that cinema has the power to unite, and inspire us all. And if true, perhaps they’re worth another look.
