Great post! Nice to see you finding new ways to re discover movies within your collection. The mix tapes analogy is also right on point. It’s about thoughtful curation and that themed clustered idea sounds like a smart way to shake things up.

I’ve also been finding different ways to engage with my discs collection. I typically arrange by director and in filmography order, but apart from that I also find myself creating new sections and groupings. Like I have most of the 90s music video directors on the same shelf wall together.

I’ve made a kaiju shelf that also shares space with Hammer Horror and Universal Monsters.

Depending on if I add more titles to that section I might move stuff or need to get a new shelf.

One section I’ve been building up a bit is ‘Aquatic Horror’. What I’ve included in this little group are mainly movies that I have no other place for.

Things like the Jaws sequels, Underwater 2020, Leviathan, demon of paradise, lake placid, tentacles, deep star six, virus, final countdown, the deep, dead and buried and shock waves.

Whoa, interesting trailer. Yeah that totally fits the bill for aquatic horror. I’ve got to check it out, thanks!

Thank You! And you’re right, I think curation is everything.

Yes setup sounds cool! 90’s music video directors; a kaiju shelf; Aquatic Horror?! That’s such a fascinating approach.

My setup starts with a few standalone sections: directors—also in filmography order—then international/foreign language films.

Next I’ve got my WB snap case collection, the “American” collection (films with American.. in the title), multi-film packs, family, and music or music related films.

Finally the main collection Comedy/Crude Humor & Satire, and ends with Alien/Monster/Tech horror.
